Do tops only last 4 years?
You may receive a TOPS Award for a maximum of 8 semesters or 12 quarters. (Summer sessions in academic programs will be paid only under specific conditions and only if funding is sufficient.

You will lose one semester (quarter) of eligibility for each semester (quarter) you were enrolled in an out-of-state institution.

Your TOPS Cumulative GPA will be calculated on all coursework you have attempted, including grades earned for dual enrollment courses taken while in high school, summer session grades, remedial course grades and repeated course grades.

The evolution of TOPS. Some say TOPS began in 1989 as the Louisiana College Tuition Plan when Gov. Buddy Roemer signed ACT 789 into law. The program was inspired by the education initiatives of New Orleans businessman Patrick Taylor and included a family income cap of $25,000 to $35,000.
