- Do not take Claritin, Clarinex, Zyrtec, Xyzal, or Allegra for 7 days prior to the allergy test.
- Do not take over the counter antihistamines (Benadryl, cold & sinus medications, sleep aids such as Tylenol PM) 7 days before the test.

- Actifed, Dimetapp (Brompheniramine)
- Atarax, Vistaril (Hydroxyzine)
- Benadryl (Diphenhydramine)

- Phenergan (Promenthazine)
- Vitamin C.
- All allergy eye drops OTC and RX (as tolerated)
Is coffee OK before allergy testing?
TWO DAYS: Prior to testing, STOP all alcohol, chocolate, coffee and all other caffeine products (i.e. Pepsi, Coke, Mountain dew, etc). day of your test, and wear loose-fitting clothes so your arms can be easily accessed.
What medications should be withheld before allergy testing?

- Allegra.
- Cetirizine.

Should I shower before an allergy test?
Day 1: A series of allergen patches will be taped to your back * After the patches are applied, please avoid any sweating, exercise or strenuous activity until the patches are removed on Day 3. You can take a sponge bath only, but do not get your back wet. Showering, bathing or swimming is NOT allowed.

Do you feel sick after allergy testing?
The most common reaction is local itching and swelling of the test site which resolves within a few hours. Other possible side-effects include itching of the eyes, nose, throat; runny nose, wheezing, light-headedness, hives and nausea.
Can I wear deodorant to an allergy test?
Do not wear cologne or scented body lotion. Other allergy patients could be sensitive to fragrances. Deodorant is fine. Do not take a flu shot or any other immunization three days before allergy testing.
Do vitamins interfere with allergy testing?
Please read the labels of any medications BEFORE you take them to prevent you from having to reschedule. Vitamins – Stop all multivitamins or anything herbal (for example: glucosamine, herbal drinks). Tricyclic Antidepressants. All Sleep Aids – For example: Tylenol PM, Ambien, Lunesta Blood pressure medication.
Can you eat and drink before allergy testing?
You don’t need to do anything special to prepare for an allergy blood test. In some cases, your healthcare provider may want you to fast (not eat or drink) before the test. It’s important to let your provider know if you take antihistamines. They might ask you to stop taking this medication before your test.
What do I wear for an allergy test?
