What is the difference between wool and felted wool?
In boiled wool, you can still see the fibers woven together, while in felted wool, which is washed and rolled out over and over again, the fibers have meshed together. In terms of texture, felted wool is much more matted, so it’ll feel fluffier.

Is wool felt better?

Why is my wool not felting?
Not using enough water. Beginners in wet felting frequently underestimate how much water they require while felting. You must be quite generous. If you don’t use enough water, the soap won’t lather and the wool won’t be felted properly.
Can you use normal wool for felting?
The fibers used in yarn are very fine, and therefore not suitable for felting all the way through, but you can use them the way you would use merino. You could probably even run it through a blending board or drum carder and make your own art batts.

What is the best wool for felting?
Merino
Merino is the most common fibre found and popular for felting. It comes in almost every colour imaginable and is normally sourced from Australasia or South Africa. It is very soft with a staple length of about 3-4 inches (length of each fibre) and has barely any crimp.
Do felt hats get ruined in the rain?
A light rain shower, drizzle, even a little snow will not destroy most felt hats. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are not good for felt hats. Straw hats (made of natural fibers) should NEVER be worn in the rain. A straw hat will not maintain it’s shape in wet weather.
How do you seal felt?
Because felt is so porous, the paint will bleed through (top example). You will need to seal it and in this case I used Mod Podge (bottom example). Mod Podge works well because it doesn’t get entirely absorbed through the felt and sits on the surface of the felt.
