We decided to share the knowledge of these strange cuffs and hems with you so that you gain a little bit more knowledge of the clothing world. These are known as “Ribbed Cuffs and Hems” because of the elastic that is sewn between the cotton fabric.

How are ribbing cuffs measured?
Calculating Ribbing Yourself
Measure the circumference of the opening (measure the finished garment, exclude the seam allowance). Decide how long you want the band to be (finished length). For a wristband or a waistband it is generally 5 cm, for a neckline generally 2 or 3 cm.

How do you cuff a sweatshirt?
Stick 4 sewing pins evenly around the sleeve edge and around the cuff edge. Take a sewing pin and push it through the seam at the raw edge of your sweatshirt. Keep the sweatshirt right side out and stick 3 more pins along the edge, leaving equal space between each. Then, repeat this on the cuff.
