They shouldn’t be too loose and baggy, nor skin tight. They must have the right circumference around your waist, seat, thigh, knee and ankle. Pleats should not gap. The most difficult part of the fit of pants is the back view when you do not wear a jacket.

Can a tailor make pants slimmer?
Without giving yourself a legging-like or skinny-jean-like look, you can taper your pants and look slimmer with a skinnier fit at around the calves that goes skinnier down your ankles. As long as there is enough material to work with, you tailor will manage to do the alteration and be happy with the result.
Are tuxedo pants supposed to be baggy?
Make sure the pants’ waist sits at your natural waist or right below your belly button. Your pants should have about a half-inch break, landing at the back of the shoe. Pant breaks vary from no break to a double break.
