We coat many of our products with a durable water repellent (DWR). Together with a tightly-woven, i.e. water-resistant fabric, this provides a good level of protection from rain and snow. We also apply a DWR to many of our waterproof jackets.
Is North Face Nuptse worth it?

How do you waterproof a puffer jacket?
To be fully waterproof the seams also need to be taped. Spraying your down jacket with a waterproofing agent such as Nikwax TX Direct will only apply a layer of DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating to the fabric. (Just in case you didn’t know, there’s already one on there!)
Does water-resistant mean you can swim with it?
A watch stamped with “Water Resistant” means that it is humidity-protected. It can endure a bit of water splashes from washing your hands or being caught in the rain. However, water resistance does not mean you should swim or shower with your watch on.
