Though similar, the Old Navy vs Gap debate is settled with their differences. Old Navy is usually the one with the bigger store square feet, while if you walk into a Gap store, you’ll feel more like you are in a boutique. You can tell some of these differences as soon as you walk into the stores.

For one, both brands are known for displaying their logo on sweatshirts and clothing items, a logo that looks quite different. But quite possibly the biggest difference is the prices — Old Navy is often less expensive than its Gap counterpart. This price discrepancy was done purposely.
2. Old Navy. Old Navy’s clothes are often oversized—and not necessarily in a good way. Old Navy was known for being one of the worst offenders of wonky sizing, with most pieces for both men and women fitting larger than expected based on the size tag.
So instead of segregating clothes into plus-size sections, they wanted to put them all together. And rather than offering sizes zero to 14 like most retailers, Old Navy decided to offer sizes zero to 30.
To make their customers feel better about themselves, Old Navy increases the waist size of their pants. When Abram Sauer tested some common brands of pants a few years back, he found that the Old Navy slacks measured a full 5 inches bigger than the label!
Did Gap change their sizing?
On its May 26 earnings call, Gap Inc. announced its decision to scale back the groundbreaking accessibility of inclusive sizes launched by its Old Navy brand in August 2021. It owed the move to a decrease in demand for larger sizes.
To Return or Exchange Items in a Store
For Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy, and Athleta items, you can return merchandise purchased online to the appropriate store. For example, if you bought an item on Gap.com, you can return it to a Gap retail store, but not to an Old Navy store.

This is why I decided to go and check out Old Navy. After 11 years, Old Navy decided it would bring plus sizes back to select stores throughout North America with sizes ranging from 0-30, XS-XXL, 1x-4x in Regular, Petite, Tall, Short, and Long.
Are clothing sizes getting bigger?
The Boston Globe recently featured an article on this very topic and found that as Americans have increased in size (along with our crazy obsession with being thin) clothing sizes have decreased. So what was once a size 14 now is a size 8, a size 8 is a size, etc.
Does Forever 21 run small?
They tend to run bigger for me but sometimes I can’t wear the same size in different things there either. Most of the time yes. Just look over the reviews to double check. Also, if they don’t fit or you don’t like it (if you order online) you can always return it straight to the store.

Old Navy Tall line is made specifically for women over 5’10”. There is an extra half-inch in the shoulders, longer sleeves, longer length in tops, lower waist position for tops and dresses, a nice longer rise, a full 36” inseam, and proper shaping to fit a woman’s figure.
