This is about to radically change. While not nearly radical as needed, boots over the last ten years have featured wider toe boxes and wider lasts. In many cases, the rear cuff heights have been lowered a bit to accommodate less tip pressure needed with tighter radius sidecut skis. Skis have evolved.

Can I use 20 year old ski boots?
If they’re rounded from wear and tear, they need to be replaced. If your ski boots are more than a couple years old, it may be difficult to find replacement parts, in which case, you’ll have to upgrade to new boots.
How have skis changed over the years?
During the ’90s they were changed for the better thanks to shaped skis. These skies were shorter and wider and allowed better flotation on the snow. As skis became more versatile, so did how skis were used. With easier shaped skis, people felt more confident on the slopes and began venturing out off the trail.
Are 10 year old skis still good?
You can technically ski on an old pair of skis for as long as they are intact and can attach to your ski boots – but if you want to get the best from your expensive lift pass – you probably should upgrade to a new pair at least every 6-12 years. More major improvements in design tend to happen every 5 years.

Do good ski boots make a difference?
The higher the number, the stiffer the boot and (typically) the better it is for more advanced skiers who want greater responsiveness. Entry-level boots generally come with flexes of 100 and below, making them more forgiving for new skiers. But which flex works best for which level of skier isn’t set in stone.
Why are skis wider now?
The bindings are wider and more rigid, spreading further across the ski, which makes it easier for the skier to roll the ski onto its edge. The bindings are often also raised off the ski surface with a plate, which enables the skier to have more leverage going into turns.
Why are modern skis shorter?
The newer ski technology (I guess it isn’t really that new anymore) gives you better control due to the parabolic shape (Tip and Tail are wider than the waist). This has allowed skis to get shorter, all while still proving easier and tighter turns due to the shape helping you cut and hold the snow.
Are new skis worth it?
A brand new pair of skis can cost a small fortune, and if you will ski just one week over a year, you may not get your moneys worth. The good news here is that they will last you an awfully long time – decades even – which will save you money in years of rentals.
How long should ski boots last?
TLDR; It depends, but typically ski boots will last between 50-200 full skiing days – depending on the quality of the boot and how it’s used (that’s 2.5 – 10 years if you ski 20 days a year).
How do you tell when skis are worn out?
A tired-out ski feels softer and lacks its original pop and energy. Repeated flexing with every turn, exposure to the elements and general abuse cause the materials to wear.
Why did they stop making rear entry ski boots?
Boiled down to its essence, what drove the rear-entry boot out of existence was disdain for its perceived performance limitations. (This despite a young Marc Girardelli winning World Cup races on the SX90 Equipe, the predecessor to the iconic SX91.)
