Once you have your fleece fabric cut to the dimensions you want it to be, all you need to do is finish your blanket. You can finish a fleece blanket with a simple folded hem, by adding fringe to the edges and tying it into knots, or by weaving fringe loops around the blanket’s edges to create a braided edge.

- Tear off a manageable length of the tape and align it with the edge of the fleece.
- Fold the edge over the width of the tape.
- Set the iron to the absolute lowest temperature that can produce steam.
- Continue taping and pressing all the way down to the corner.
- Resume the taping process at the folded edge.
Does fleece need to be hemmed?
Yes, fleece is easy to sew. It does not fray so it is not necessary to the finish seams. In fact, a cut edge can be left as is without applying facing. Blankets can be made by cutting to the desired size and “Presto” the blanket is finished.
What is the best stitch for fleece?

A straight stitch or narrow zigzag works best. It is often helpful to decrease the presser foot pressure if possible. If fleece is very thick, it may be helpful to set pressure foot onto seam allowance about ¼ inch and start stitching. It can also be helpful to hold fabric taut as you sew.
What can I use to mark my fleece?
For marking fleece, most marker inks will sit on the surface and not be super helpful. Instead, try chalk or methods like thread tracing. Here I’m using this Fons and Porter chalk pencil. Should you wash fleece before making a blanket?
Wash and dry both pieces of fabric. (Note: Fleece fabric will shrink when dried; therefore, drying the fabrics before the blanket is made is beneficial.
Should I use a walking foot when sewing fleece?
You don’t have to use a Walking Foot to sew fleece, but I’ve found it to be incredibly helpful because I don’t have to pin as much (or sometimes, not pin at all). Fleece has a tendency to shift around, so having an extra set of feed dogs really helps.
How do you tell right from wrong side of fleece?
On standard fleece the right side is nubbly and the wrong side is smooth. When the pattern instructions say, “Place the two pieces right sides together,” it means place them nubbly sides together. Fleece marked “anti-pill” looks this way, too, and tends to be ultra-soft and cuddly. Some fleece is smooth on both sides.
Can you use Sharpie on fleece?
You may do this using either permanent marker or fabric paint. However, remember that permanent marker may require a second coat in order to appear dark enough on the fleece’s surface.

Can I use regular pencil to mark fabric?
