When it comes to sewing leather, suede, vinyl, or real fur, it’s best to use a leather needle. These needles are designed to penetrate thick fabrics without damaging them. However, that doesn’t mean that other types of needles can’t be used on leather.

Can I use a regular needle for leather?
If you try to sew leather and faux leather with for example an ordinary size 110 needle the machine will struggle. So by using a leather needle the machine will be able to sew more easily.
What kind of needle do I need for leather?
The R point Groz-Beckert needle is a great needle for leather, as long as it is under 4 oz. The R point is considered “sharp” and can punch through materials of all types quite easily. When stitching on thicker pieces of leather, we recommend using a cutting point needle.
