However, aside from Rolex watches that were officially issued to (or gifted to) members of the military, there are plenty of military personnel who choose to wear Rolex watches – either on or off duty (or both).
False. There is a test called drownproofing; maybe this is where the idea you have to drown to graduate came from. But they do tie your feet together and hands behind your back, but you do this in a pool.
Do Special Forces wear Rolex?
Anyway, a lot of guys in Special Forces/Teams wear Rolex for the above mentioned reasons. It just works. The good news is that you never have to buy another watch again, or worry about batteries, AND it’s just a damn good looking watch.
For UDT divers and SEALs their watch is an invaluable tool, as they use it to measure time when they dive so they can measure distance in the dark. In the photo below taken in 1961 we see a U.S. Navy UDT Combat diver rocking a Rolex “No Crown” GMT-Master.
The Navy SEALs use their watches as an extension of themselves to make sure they are always on time with information they need. Each of these watches is special for its own reason whether that is the great amount of features or the understated design.

Does the US military issue watches?
The military does issue watches but members can also use their own watch of choice as long as it has essential standards. So, what are standard issue military watches? In short, they must be durable and reliable.

This gives each sailor more time off-duty, sometimes allowing sleeping periods of over seven hours. Names for the three watches—instead of Port and Starboard—vary from ship to ship.

For the US Marines, for example, “inconspicuous watches are authorized for wear in uniform,” while the US Navy Uniform Regulations flatly state, “While in uniform, wristwatches shall be conservative and in good taste. In 2015, the Glock 19, a compact 9 mm, was added to the SEAL handgun inventory. The SEALs plan to eventually replace the P226s with the newer Glocks. For now, the M9 continues to be the primary sidearm for U.S. uniformed personnel worldwide and the P226 continues to be the primary handgun of the SEALs.
