Is 50 lb braid too much?
Keep in mind not to lock down on the drag too much because smaller reels are not specifically designed for heavy line. If you plan on fishing close to mangroves or docks for big snook or redfish, this is an ideal setup. I would recommend using anywhere between 30 and 50-lb braided line on a 3500-size spinning reel.
Why use an FG knot instead of a swivel?
The FG knot is much more refined than a swivel and is, therefore, less noticeable. Because the FG node is smaller, debris is also less likely to get stuck behind. A clean line results in more bites, so more fish. The FG button does not suffer from fatigue and is therefore more reliable.
