If you really love these jeans and want to wear them, you can always take them to a tailor and have an extra length of denim added to them at the hems. It can be done. The only problem is finding the exact same shade & color of the denim material to add to the jeans.

What can I do if my jeans are too short?
You can save a too-short pair of pants with one of these simple fixes below.
- Let Down the Hem of the Pants. Kentaroo Tryman / Getty Images.
- Add a Cuff to the Pants. When you don’t have enough hem to let down, you can lengthen your pants by adding a fabric cuff to the bottom.
- Add More Fabric Mid-Leg.
- Turn Them into Capris.
Can you get jeans tailored to be longer?
Good news: Shortening too-long jeans (aka hemming jeans) is the easiest alteration you can make to denim pants. A tailor or seamstress can shorten them, either by cutting off some fabric and redoing the hems or taking up the hems in a way that doesn’t involve cutting the fabric.
How do you lengthen short jeans?
After they’re done washing, but BEFORE you put them in the dryer, do the following:
- Fold your jeans in half.
- Hold your jeans tightly with one hand at the waistband side and one hand at the end-of-the-leg hemmed side.
- Bring your hands together, then…
- Pull them apart to stretch the pants lengthwise.
How long should jeans be without shoes?
Generally, jeans should be long enough to reach the tops of your feet with a little extra fabric, but short enough that the hems aren’t dragging on the ground. Jeans promote an effortless style, so their fit should reflect that.
How much can pants be lengthened?
The waist of a pair of trousers can be let in or taken out 2-3″. Look inside the seat for extra fabric at the waistband – this, minus half an inch or so, is as far as you can take the pants out. Trousers are easily shortened, but lengthening them requires fabric at the hems.
How can I lengthen my wide leg jeans?
Gently tug on the jean legs until you get them to be the length you want. Start tugging from anywhere below the knee in short, little jerks. Work your way down towards the cuffs. Be sure that you tug from both sides of the pant leg (the inseam and the outer seam) so that the leg will be even at the bottom.
Should jeans touch the floor?
The jeans should skim the floor when you’re barefoot, and the bottom of the hem should hit an inch above the ground when you have shoes on, like in this image. If they’re still too long, try a small cuff for a casual, rumpled look. “Just make sure the cuff is small—no more than 2/5 inches wide,” Ricker says.
Why do I constantly have to pull my jeans up?
Constantly pulling up the waistband of your pants is no fun. It means that either the inseam is too short or the waist is a tad too small. “I always tell my clients, if you need to constantly fix, fidget, and fuss with any clothing item, it doesn’t fit and it’s time to get newer options,” says Stuart.
Is it better to size up or down in jeans?
Any good denim expert worth their weight in gold will tell you to “always take the smaller size when you can”. The reason is that denim stretches up to half a size, even if it says otherwise on the label.
Can tailors make things longer?
How Many Sizes Larger or Smaller Can You Go? The first rule of suit alterations is that taking away or reducing the amount of fabric is doable, but you can’t make something bigger, at least not by much. Exactly how much depends on what allowances of extra material were under the seams or hems of the garments.
How do you make length of jeans?
The best way to do this is to put your jeans on (or have the person who will be wearing the jeans put them on) and fold the cuff under until the jeans are the length you’d like them to be. Then, use a piece of chalk to mark the spot where the new hem should end. Measure and mark two more lines.
What is a false hem?
If you find yourself short of fabric when hemming a garment, you can create a false hem. This involves attaching a separate strip of material, as a facing, to add length. This extra material is not visible, since it is part of the material that is turned up under the hem.
How do you know if your pants are too short?
Rule #2: Pant should never be worn too short. It’s all about the break. A good break is not only visually appealing, but it also lets you know if you’re wearing your pants too short. For example, if the break comes too high or is not defined enough, your pants will look too short when you stand or walk.
