It’s great for tempo, threshold and speedwork sessions but it doesn’t handle easy runs or even steady runs very well because it isn’t suitable for heel striking- it’s too unstable. On the outsole, there’s plenty of hard-wearing, thick rubber on the forefoot which is very durable.

Is Nike Vaporfly stable?
Although the combination of the plate, wider forefoot and new stable/durable forefoot outsole make the front of the shoe the most stable point. The previous versions felt like running on stilts. However the Nike Vaporfly Next% has felt stable from the second I put it on.
Are the Vaporflys durable?
If we had to put a number to the Vaporfly’s durability, it should last 400 miles with a midfoot striking pattern. Runners who land heel first will get the same mileage, but with a higher extent of scuffing.
Do Vaporflys need breaking in?
They only have a “break down” period. Think about it. The only reason their shelf life is so limited is because every time you run on them you are applying pressure to the leverage point on the carbon fiber spring (it isn’t metal).
How long do Vaporflys Next% last?
This shoe is meant for marathons but not training for marathons. I would say this shoe can last about 4 to 5 marathons which is ~200-250 miles.
Which is faster Alphafly or Vaporfly?
On one hand, the Alphafly is the most super of the super shoes on the market right now. The air pods make it feel faster than the Vaporfly Next% 2, plus the fact that Kipchoge wore it for, what Nike called, “the ultimate test run” proves how groundbreaking the shoes are.
How many miles do Alphaflys last?
After a few runs, I do not notice any wear and tear, so I suspect they might last anywhere from 150 to 300 miles.
How long do next% last?
The heel/Achilles ridges at the inside rear of the shoe will be in the wrong place if you wear anything but the mildest of orthotics. Longevity – I don’t know how long these will last and don’t plan (yet) to run them to the point of uselessness. 100-150 miles should be fine.
Are Nike Vaporfly next worth it?
If you want to set PRs or run like an elite, then this is THE shoe. We don’t often say this, but the Nike ZoomX Vaporfly Next% is the most responsive shoe in our arsenal! It’s a marathon racer that bolted us through the blocks. And for such a steep price, we’d say, it’s worth it!
Are Alphaflys worth it?
The durability is better than with the Vaporfly but still limited, which will make more than one runner keep these shoes only for race days. In summary, the Alphafly is the best of the Nike series if you are looking for performance.
Why are Vaporflys so good?
The winner of the 2019 New York marathon, Geoffrey Kamworor, and the world marathon record holder, Eliud Kipchoge, both wear Nike Vaporfly shoes. Research suggests Vaporflys give runners more energetic efficiency because the shoes’ foam-and-carbon sole structure ensures less energy is lost with each step.
Is Vaporfly good for wide feet?
It still fits true to size and there is plenty of room in the toe box for my toes to splay; however, due to the narrow midfoot, the Vaporfly Next% 2 is still not suitable for wide-footed runners and there is no wide version.
What is the fastest shoe in the world?
Zoom Vaporfly Elite
Nike and Adidas, ever the archrivals, are competing in their own races to deliver the world’s fastest times—Breaking2 for Nike and Sub2 for Adidas—and, therefore, the world’s fastest shoes. Nike on Tuesday unveiled its Zoom Vaporfly Elite, while Adidas rolled out its announcement with the adizero Sub2.
What is the difference between Vaporfly and Alphafly?
The Vaporfly Next% 2 is better suited to shorter races because it is lighter and doesn’t have as much cushioning as the Alphafly Next% 2. The Alphafly Next% 2 is better suited to longer races like the marathon and ultramarathons because of how much extra cushioning and bounce it provides.
What is the best Vaporfly?
Nike ZoomX Vaporfly NEXT% 2
There’s a case for saying the Vaporfly 2 is the best racing shoe in Nike’s line-up full stop, especially since it’s now £50 cheaper than the Alphafly (the original Vaporfly NEXT% was £239.95).
What is Nike’s fastest shoe?
Currently the fastest running shoe in Nike’s lineup, the Alphafly can deliver as much as 85 percent energy return; Eliud Kipchoge wore a prototype of the shoe for his historic sub-two hour marathon in October 2019.
Are Alphaflys good for 5K?
I was surprised at how impressive it felt for an all-out 5K, and naturally it was brilliant for a steady half marathon, where the cushioning combined with that carbon plate made holding a good pace just feel easier.
Are Vaporflys good for track?
The shoe is made for the road
The Nike shoes are intended to be worn on the road, and even though they perform exceptionally well there, those results don’t transfer onto the track. Because the shoe was intended for the roads, they feel a little too soft when worn on the track surface.
Do Alphaflys need breaking in?
Decent durability
There is no “breaking-in” period for these shoes, as they are stiff and prolonged running would only wear down the outsole and foam.
Are Alphaflys good for wide feet?
The heel and forefoot on the Alphafly are wider than the same areas on the Vaporfly. The midfoot and arch area are very snug but that’s needed to support the sock like fit. The Alphafly will accommodate a wide range of foot types.
Are Alphafly good for heel strikers?
Overall it’s a good fit, but those with wider feet may not agree with the midfoot. The heel is “secure enough” but does have a small amount of translation. Upon donning (putting the shoe on) the shoe feels really snug through the heel collar but once your foot is in the shoe the fit is ok and mimics above.
