Can Tights Be Mended?

Note: You should only sew on tights that are made with mesh, Lycra, or nylon. Tights like fishnets or thicker fabrics like wool can also be sewn and patched. However, soft fabric like Supplex (often used in dance tights) should NOT be sewn, as sewing with these fabrics can cause larger snags to appear.

Solution 1: The Hairspray Method

  1. Place one hand in the stocking underneath the run (make sure the run is not touching your skin)
  2. Spray the run with the hairspray until the edges are saturated.
  3. Let the hairspray dry for 25-30 minutes.
  4. Go dancing.

How do you fix a tear without sewing?

  1. Cut a thin strip of self-sticking garment tape just long enough to cover the tear.
  2. Cut a thin piece of heat-activated hemming tape to the length of the tear.
  3. Select or cut a patch that is slightly larger than the tear you must repair.
  4. Apply a thin line of fabric glue along one edge of the tear.

Can you put a patch on leggings?

I used an old pair of sports leggings (after a lot of years wear had seen better days), cut some of the fabric off the bottom of them and made two patches for patching the hole in the knees of my favourite leggings. Patches made from old T-shirts and jersey underwear also works.

Can you fix a pulled thread?

First, thread your hand sewing needle, no need to knot the end. Next, insert your threaded needle inside the loop of the snag and pull through until the end of the thread is close to the loop. Create a knot around the loop with the end of your thread. Using your scissors, snip the excess thread from the knot.

Do tights fray if you cut them?
