According to the experts over at Denimology, stretch jeans are actually made using “elastane, a stretchy, synthetic fiber, also known as Spandex, or Lycra.” They’re typically one to three percent elastane. So, just know that you’re basically walking around in cotton Spandex when you wear stretch jeans.

What is the difference between Levi flex and stretch?

Flex jeans are jeans that have a small bit of stretch material (usually spandex or elastane) mixed in with the cotton denim to produce jeans that are much more flexible than regular 100% cotton denim jeans. The amount of stretch material added to the fabric is small, usually in the 1-4% range.

The new proprietary fabric will house all of the 501’s original shrink-to-fit fabric properties, while offering new stretchability ranging from 12.5% to 17% stretch.

  4. Step 4 Wash them as little as possible.

  1. Grab a pair of too-tight jeans and submerge them in lukewarm water.
  2. After the jeans are completely wet, put them on.
  3. After you’ve put in a few minutes of movement, take off the jeans and hang them up to air dry.
  4. After your jeans have fully dried, put them on and enjoy the extra wiggle room.

Do Levi 501 jeans run small?

One important note on these jeans: they run VERY small. Like I said above, I typically wear a 26 in most other denim brands, and a 27 in the other Levi’s styles I own but I wear a 28 in these. So I would suggest going up two sizes… which seems crazy, but trust me on this one!

How should 501 jeans fit?

The fit sits at the waist and has a straight leg that is regular through the thigh. While I wear wider leg chinos and slim-fit jeans as well, the democratic fit of the 501 feels like home — it’s comfortable and allows my personality to show.
