Presoak your sweater in slightly warm water (86F / 30C) with some mild detergent for at least 30 minutes up or overnight. Never machine wash your sweater as hot or cold water may cause the wool to shrink! Gently rinse the sweater out, don’t pull at it or wring it out as this can affect its shape.

How do you make a sweater soft again?

  1. Wash the sweater in the washing machine.
  2. Add 1 cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle.
  3. Place the sweater in a bucket and fill the bucket with enough water to cover the sweater.
  4. Return the sweater to the washing machine the following morning.

While your sweater is still wet, squeeze out a quarter-sized amount of hair conditioner and rub it in between your palms. Gently massage the conditioner into the fibers of the wool, grabbing more if you need to.
