The Arrival of Old Navy
The new Gap Warehouse stores were a hit. After a few weeks, executives at The Gap decided that the new chain needed its own identity. After some consideration, Drexler decided on “Old Navy”, which was the name of a bar he had seen while walking through the streets of Paris.
According to Forbes, when Old Navy first came on the scene, its motto was “Fashion, Fun, Family & Value,” and was solely created to be a less expensive version of Gap. Gap was looked at as the “middle” of the market, while their other brand, Banana Republic, was more high-end.
We were something the world had never seen—fabulous, affordable fashion for everyone. We opened our first store in 1994 and were the fastest retailer to reach $1 billion in sales within four years. Today, we’re one of the largest apparel brands in the world.
Our motto is ready, urgent, approachable.
What does Gap stand for?
The Gap originally targeted the younger generation when it opened, with its name referring to the generation gap of the time. It originally sold everything that Levi Strauss & Co made in every style, size, and color, and organized the stock by size. The Gap was the first of many shops that carried only Levi’s.

Old Navy vs Gap—Price Difference
Both Old Navy and Gap are excellent stores to shop at, especially if you are working on a budget. However, though they both have friendly prices, the most significant difference is the item’s price—the cost of items at Old Navy is usually less expensive than that of The Gap.

Most Old Navy clothes are imported from overseas. While researching I couldn’t find any information on their specific factories where their clothes are made or policies. However, it’s reported that It’s reported that Gap Inc.
Who is Gap’s target market?

Its initial target is the younger generation, and its name refers to the generation gap of the time between the age of 18-28, but the consumer’s range starts from babies to elderly people. People of all ages can experience the fashion of GAP.

Why did Gap Inc fail?

Consumer and retail expert Kate Hardcastle agrees that Gap failed to adapt and “embrace the new customer,” by not offering enough variety and not being as cheap as competitors such as Primark. Another criticism is that Gap failed to invest heavily enough in its online sales.

An “okay” environment.
Working here has helped a lot with my social skills and mannerism. I work part time and have been for over a year here. As much as I do enjoy working here, they do not do raises (at least at my location) for those working part time. I get paid the bare minimum (minimum wage – $11.35).
To make their customers feel better about themselves, Old Navy increases the waist size of their pants. When Abram Sauer tested some common brands of pants a few years back, he found that the Old Navy slacks measured a full 5 inches bigger than the label!
Gap fits exactly like all of my other Gap jeans do, so I love the consistency. Old Navy always seems to run too tight or way too big- which means you have to order at least 2-3 sizes to make sure you get one that fits.
