Billed as one of the biggest launches in the brand’s history, Old Navy in August began offering all women’s clothing styles in size 0 to 30 and XS to 4X, making it one of the first retailers to place such a big bet on inclusive sizing.

Is there a demand for plus size clothing?
Obesity is rampant in developing countries like the United States, making plus-size clothing a lucrative market. According to CDC estimates, 40% of US people were obese in 2018. This percentage was 42 per cent as of 2019. As a result, there is a growing demand for plus size clothing.
Why do stores not carry plus sizes?

Last week, LOFT announced it was cutting its plus offerings due to “business challenges,” and it’s not the first brand to do so.
From day one, Old Navy was a revolution. We were something the world had never seen—fabulous, affordable fashion for everyone. We opened our first store in 1994 and were the fastest retailer to reach $1 billion in sales within four years. Today, we’re one of the largest apparel brands in the world.
In 2014, the brand faced criticism for charging higher prices for women’s plus-size jeans than smaller-size jeans, but not doing the same in men’s jeans. A Change.org petition garnered close to 100,000 supporters to end Old Navy’s “discriminatory pricing practices.”
To make their customers feel better about themselves, Old Navy increases the waist size of their pants. When Abram Sauer tested some common brands of pants a few years back, he found that the Old Navy slacks measured a full 5 inches bigger than the label!
Old Navy Petite line is specifically for women under 5’4”. The garments have narrowed shoulders and higher arm openings (yay for properly covered bras!). Sleeves are shorter, hips and waist are more narrow than the classic, fit, pieces have a shorter rise and there’s a lovely 29.5” inseam for truly petite ladies.
We launched inclusive sizes from 0-28 in stores and 0-30 online in August 2021, and since then we have welcomed millions of new customers to Old Navy and learned a lot about where and how they shop.
