On March 11, 1994, Gap Warehouse was renamed Old Navy Clothing Co. in order to establish a separate image from its parent company Gap Inc. The new stores were about 15,000 square feet (1,400 m2), compared to less than 10,000 square feet (900 m2) for Gap Warehouse stores.
Not many people know that Gap and Old Navy are two retail stores owned by the same parent company—GAP Inc. To make their customers feel better about themselves, Old Navy increases the waist size of their pants. When Abram Sauer tested some common brands of pants a few years back, he found that the Old Navy slacks measured a full 5 inches bigger than the label!
Note that the company switched up its sizing in August 2021, adopting a new size-inclusive system. All Old Navy women’s styles now come in sizes 0 to 30 or XS-4X with no price difference or separate plus-size collections.
