How do you stiffen a fabric hat?
Spray starch or fabric stiffener over the entire hat. If only stiffening the brim of a hat or ball cap, spray the brim only. Allow the hat to remain upright on the table until it dries completely.
Can buckram be ironed?
The adhesive side will face down onto the inside of your fabric. Cover the fabric and buckram with a damp cloth and press the iron onto the fabric for 10-15 seconds at a time until you have covered the whole surface, or the buckram is glued to the fabric.
Do I really need interfacing?
Even if using a naturally crisp or heavy material, you will need interfacing in structural areas so that they are less limp than the rest of your garment. It’s all about relative body. Similarly, interfacing can add structure to bags, costumes, or any other architectural detail.

What needle do you use to embroider a hat?
Titanium-coated needles, usually 75/11 sharps, are ideal for caps. They will penetrate better through heavy fabrics, buckram and extra layers on seams. Sprayway’s Dry Silicone Spray is also helpful. Use it to lubricate each stitch, which will reduce thread and needle breaks.
How hard is it to embroider a hat?
