Do I need a special needle to sew denim?

There are jeans needles that you can buy especially for sewing jeans. If you don’t want to buy specialty needles, just make sure to have at least a size 90/14 universal needle (100/16 for thicker denim). Needles should be matched to the thickness of the fabric you’re sewing.
Is cotton or polyester thread better?
Polyester is far stronger than cotton, and as a result, you can find this thread in significantly smaller sizes than cotton will be available in because the thread will still retain its strength, even at a super fine size like 100wt.
