What is corset tape?

Waist tape is twill tape, tailor’s tape, or other sturdy ribbon used to re-enforce the waistline of a corset. It’s not essential, but it does increase the durability of a corset by easing stress on the seams along the the highest stress point – the waist line.

How wide should a waist tape be?

For historical reproductions a basic 1″ wide cotton twill tape is perfect. I don’t recommend less than a 3/4″ width, and there’s no need to go wider than 1.25″. And cotton really is preferred. I know polyester tapes (such as Wrights) are found everywhere.

How do you cinch your waist with duct tape?

  1. Put on the t-shirt, and start wrapping the duct tape around you – tight.
  2. After you’ve gotten the waist cincher shape that you’d like, cut yourself out of it.
  3. Cut off all excess fabric and even it out.
  4. Mark off spots for buttons and buttonholes.
  5. Sew on the buttons and cut the buttonholes.
  6. Try it on!

How do I know my corset size?

You’ll want to select a size that’s smaller than your natural waist* measurement. Our corsets should be up to 4″ smaller than your natural waist for beginners or up to 6″ smaller for more experienced corset wearers (and those with particularly squeezable midsections).
