How long does a Rab jacket last?
If you wear your jacket once or twice a year then you’ll get 40 years out of it with very little trouble. If you wear your jacket for 100 days per year then 4-6 years seems like a very reasonable lifetime.
What is a Rab coat?
Rab jackets come with a hydrophobic (water resistant) Nik-wax treatment to the feathers meaning they can repel water for longer meaning you have more time before having to run for cover from the rain. Rab only uses the highest-quality, traceable cruelty-free down which is a by-product of the meat industry.
How warm is a Rab Alpine jacket?
That the down is treated with PFC-free Nikwax to make it hydrophobic is a big plus. The jacket kept me warm at -13 degrees Celsius and is capable of resisting wet conditions well. Great fit and freedom of movement. The hood fits well and provides shelter.

How waterproof is Rab?
These layers are incredibly thin, at Rab we use membranes that range between 7 and 30 microns in thickness – for reference, a strand of human hair is around 100 microns. Finer membranes will allow for greater breathability but regular use can lead to a loss of waterproofing.
How do RAB jackets fit?
Rab seem to be sized on the small side. I tried on a Rab Belay jacket a couple of weeks back and a large was a good fit, I am usually a medium. Best bet is to try one on somewhere. Tower Ridge Direct do Rab stuff cheap.
Is the Rab Microlight Alpine jacket waterproof?
Your Microlight Jacket is not waterproof. The Microlight Alpine Jacket is designed for alpine climbers who want something light and packable that protects them against wind and snow. It does have a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating that will deflect snow, but we don’t advise wearing this out in the rain.
