Regardless of the outer material used to form the vest, make sure it has a windproof lining. This feature will keep you so much warmer when outside in the chilly fall breeze. A relatively thin vest with windproof lining will often keep you warmer than a thicker, fully breathable one.

Should vest be tight or loose?
“Go for something that has a comfortable fit in the body (you don’t want yours to be too big as it will sag and the excess fabric will cause bunching). A snug fit will look smarter, but you don’t want it to be too tight either. This is a summer staple and you should move freely in it.”
Most vests are going to have 5 buttons down the front, but if you’re over 6’2″ or so, or have an otherwise longer torso, I think a 6 button front would be a good option for you. This would keep the buttons from “stretching out”, but then again, that can be a style preference.
